Having partnered with Italian manufacturer Scattolini, the Mercedes-Benz Dealer Network is now offering Canter 3.5t trucks that are fitted as platform dropsiders and tippers and ready to get on the road.

WR Harrison Brickwork, based on Hoddeston, Hertfordshire, are one of the first companies to try out these vehicles, and so far, they've been thoroughly impressed by their performance. "It's a blinding truck!" said proprietor Billy Harrison.

Small, strong and body ready

"We're using every bit of the available payload," Billy said, "and the Canter carries the weight really well, while it's also very easy to drive and turns on a sixpence."

Using their 3.5t tipper to deliver sand and ballast to job sites, as well as carry away any hardcore and other spoil, Billy and his team of seven have not only been impressed by the truck's performance, but by how easy the bodied solution was to purchase and get out on the road.

"No-one wants the aggravation, if it can be avoided," said Billy, "of buying a new truck from a Dealer then having to go elsewhere to get the body sorted. It was brilliant in this case to have one point of contact, and to be presented with the keys to my new vehicle just one week after I made my initial approach to S & B."

Body-ready truck

Mercedes-Benz Dealer S & B Commercials provided WR Harrison with their Canter 3C13, which is powered by a high-torque 3.0 litre engine producing 130 hp and paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

Joe Castronovo, FUSO Canter Sales Specialist at S & B Commercials, said that having body-ready models available was truly beneficial for businesses like WR Harrison.

"The new campaign offers huge advantages to operators like Billy," he said, "who would have been looking at a turnaround time of eight to ten weeks had he gone to one of our competitors and purchased a vehicle in the conventional way."

A 'proper' truck

As well as being body-ready, the Canter 3.5t also shares the ladder-frame chassis of the Canter 7.5t model, meaning that it has the strength and durability of a 'proper' truck, rather than a van-based model.

In addition, the Canter 3.5t is highly fuel-efficient and maneuverable, meaning that it's the perfect partner to support WR Harrison with the wide range of commercial and residential construction projects that they undertake in and around the M25.
